La r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la compression de l'acier de construction est environ 10 \u00e0 15 fois sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle du b\u00e9ton standard, et la r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la traction est plus de 100 fois sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle du b\u00e9ton ordinaire (b\u00e9ton non arm\u00e9).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cette grande diff\u00e9rence de r\u00e9sistance conf\u00e8re \u00e0 l'acier un \"rapport r\u00e9sistance\/poids\" tr\u00e8s \u00e9lev\u00e9. Cela signifie que nous pouvons concevoir des structures plus l\u00e9g\u00e8res, plus hautes et m\u00eame plus minces. Cependant, bien que l'acier ait gagn\u00e9 l'indice de \"r\u00e9sistance\" pure, cela ne signifie pas que nous allons abandonner le b\u00e9ton. Lorsqu'il s'agit de fondations ou de grands murs porteurs, le b\u00e9ton reste un choix irrempla\u00e7able en raison de sa rentabilit\u00e9 et de son \u00e9norme poids propre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C'est pourquoi, dans la pratique moderne de l'ing\u00e9nierie, il est rare que je choisisse simplement \"qui est le plus fort\". Le plus souvent, nous combinons les deux - en utilisant l'acier pour renforcer le b\u00e9ton - afin de tirer parti de leurs meilleures propri\u00e9t\u00e9s respectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Understanding_Strength_Indicators\"><\/span>Comprendre les indicateurs de force<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>En ing\u00e9nierie structurelle, les deux forces qui nous pr\u00e9occupent le plus sont la tension et la pression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Excellent_Compressive_Capacity\"><\/span>Excellente capacit\u00e9 de compression<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>La r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la compression de l'acier de construction est plus de dix fois sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle du b\u00e9ton. La r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la compression est la capacit\u00e9 du mat\u00e9riau \u00e0 supporter la charge d'extrusion vers le bas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bien que le b\u00e9ton soit connu dans l'industrie pour sa r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la compression (c'est pourquoi il est utilis\u00e9 pour les fondations lourdes), d'un point de vue microphysique, l'acier est plus dense et peut r\u00e9sister \u00e0 des PSI (livres par pouce carr\u00e9) beaucoup plus importants avant de se rompre. Le b\u00e9ton ordinaire est notoirement \"fragile\" et se fissure facilement si on le tire un peu 1. En revanche, l'acier de construction pr\u00e9sente une excellente ductilit\u00e9 et est tr\u00e8s r\u00e9sistant \u00e0 la traction - plus de 100 fois plus r\u00e9sistant que le b\u00e9ton ordinaire.
