L'acier offre une r\u00e9sistance inh\u00e9rente \u00e0 l'humidit\u00e9, aux parasites (termites), aux moisissures et au feu, ce qui leur permet de servir pendant des g\u00e9n\u00e9rations. Toutefois, cette r\u00e9sistance d\u00e9pend fortement de la qualit\u00e9 du mat\u00e9riau (calibre de l'acier et type de rev\u00eatement), des facteurs environnementaux (notamment l'exposition \u00e0 l'air salin ou \u00e0 une forte humidit\u00e9) et d'un entretien r\u00e9gulier tel que la peinture et le nettoyage. En bref : si le squelette structurel est pratiquement indestructible, la long\u00e9vit\u00e9 du b\u00e2timent est le reflet direct de ses rev\u00eatements de protection et de son programme d'entretien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Reasons_For_The_Long_Service_Life_Of_Steel_Structures\"><\/span>Raisons de la longue dur\u00e9e de vie des structures en acier<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>La raison fondamentale est qu'ils sont naturellement immunis\u00e9s contre les forces qui d\u00e9t\u00e9riorent les autres mat\u00e9riaux. L'acier est inorganique. Cela permet de contourner directement les probl\u00e8mes de d\u00e9faillance structurelle les plus g\u00eanants dans les b\u00e2timents traditionnels :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>R\u00e9sistance aux insectes : termites, fourmis charpenti\u00e8res, xylophages, ces petites b\u00eates ne peuvent pas ronger l'acier. Cela \u00e9limine compl\u00e8tement le type de b\u00e2timents en bois d\u00e9mod\u00e9s en raison de la d\u00e9gradation structurelle caus\u00e9e par les dangers cach\u00e9s.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Insensible \u00e0 l'humidit\u00e9 et aux moisissures : L'acier n'absorbe pas l'eau. Cela signifie qu'il ne gonfle pas, ne se d\u00e9forme pas et ne pourrit pas comme le bois. De plus, comme il ne retient pas l'eau, les moisissures ne peuvent pas s'y d\u00e9velopper, ce qui est bon pour la protection de l'int\u00e9grit\u00e9 structurelle et le maintien de la qualit\u00e9 de l'air int\u00e9rieur.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>R\u00e9sistance au feu : l'acier est un mat\u00e9riau incombustible. En cas d'incendie, la structure en acier agit davantage comme une barri\u00e8re que comme un combustible. L'acier \u00e9pais offre une plus grande rigidit\u00e9 structurelle et une meilleure r\u00e9sistance aux chocs, ce qui garantit la stabilit\u00e9 du b\u00e2timent pendant des d\u00e9cennies de contraintes physiques.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Placage protecteur : Il s'agit peut-\u00eatre du facteur le plus important. Soyons clairs : l'acier nu est oxyd\u00e9 (rouill\u00e9). Par cons\u00e9quent, la dur\u00e9e de vie du b\u00e2timent est directement li\u00e9e \u00e0 la qualit\u00e9 du rev\u00eatement m\u00e9tallique, tel que l'aluminium-zinc (Galvalume) ou la galvanisation \u00e0 chaud \u00e0 haut rendement. Si elles ne sont pas lav\u00e9es, ces particules \u00e9roderont la couche protectrice au fil du temps.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Peinture et \u00e9tanch\u00e9it\u00e9 : Sur une p\u00e9riode de 50 \u00e0 100 ans, la finition initiale ne manquera pas de se d\u00e9colorer ou de se poudrer.
